Building Permits

A building permit is required for new construction, remodeling or various property improvements.

The Building Inspector will issue a building permit, upon completion of a building permit form and payment of fees. The Building Inspector will monitor the project to ensure improvements meet city code.

Building Permit Fee Schedule 

A building permit is typically required for the following:
  • New Buildings
  • Additions
  • Renovations
  • Demolitions
  • Prefabricated Structures
  • Mobile Homes
  • Moving of Buildings or Structures
  • Fire Suppression/Detection Systems
  • Electrical Systems
  • Plumbing Systems
  • Adding or Replacing Equipment
  • HVAC Systems (heating, ventilating, air conditioning)
  • Temporary Buildings
  • Miscellaneous for Residential (fireplaces, pools, decks, fences)
  • Miscellaneous for Commercial (parking, health, food handling, signs)


Application or notice to the code official is not required for ordinary repairs to structures and items listed in Section 105.2. Such repairs shall not include the cutting away of any wall, partition, or portion thereof, the removal or cutting of any structural beam or load-bearing support, or the removal or change of any required means of egress or rearrangement of parts of a structure affecting the egress requirements; nor shall ordinary repairs include addition to, alteration of, replacement , or relocation of any standpipe, water supply, sewer, drainage, drain leader, gas, soil, waste, vent, or similar piping, electric wiring, or mechanical or other work affecting public health or general safety.

No permit necessary for: new siding, painting, carpeting or similar finish work. Permits are good for 6 months.
